Did you know that the average woman applies about 150 different chemicals to her body every day through her skincare and cosmetics? The Beauty With a Conscience Awards in the October issue of Natural Solutions: Vibrant Health Balanced Living (on newsstands now) recognizes the top 101 natural beauty products and uncovers the not-so-pretty truth that carcinogens, hormone disruptors, and heavy metals lurk in shampoos, lotions, perfumes, and makeup - and that these ingredients have been linked to breast cancer and other health problems.

“We worked closely with the Campaign for Safe Cosmetics, the Environmental Working Group, and Whole Foods Market to create our own standards - the strictest of any health magazine,” says Lauren Piscopo, editor-in-chief of Natural Solutions. “Then we scrutinized roughly 1,500 natural body care products for potentially hazardous ingredients and found that only about 800 were eligible for testing.”

Manufacturers aren’t required to list all ingredients on labels, even if they include allergens, phthalates (reproductive toxins), or neurotoxins. The magazine provides resources, such as an iPhone app that can help debunk misleading label claims and determine which ones are merely greenwashing.
Natural Solutions presents its Beauty Awards to coincide with October’s Breast Cancer Awareness Month. “We want women to understand that there’s a connection between what they slather on their bodies and possibly serious health concerns,” Piscopo says.

She has worked her butt off in a career she had no help with, what so ever. . . In our particular family dynamic, that is hard to do. . . she is a Photographer and her shot made the cover of PEOPLE magazine. That is huge for her and her career.
